September In The Community Garden

A Tiny Hiker’s Adventures in a Community Garden In September we spend our Friday afternoon either at the community garden in Massachusetts or at a park in Rhode Island. Both places have a playground, but our tiny hiker was keen on exploring the community garden or running along a trail. The community garden was the highlight of September. There was always something going on. Always exciting. Whether it was the seasonal changes of the garden beds or the people we met tending to their plants, or the heat wave or the dogs we’d meet. As a backdrop, a community garden is a single piece of land gardened collectively by a group of people. Among the rows of vegetables, fruits, and flowers, there's a common purpose. In our bustling, tech-driven society, it’s wonderful to find our young adventurer so absorbed in the natural world. Our Safety Guidelines

General Safety Guidelines Physical safety of participants is a priority. We want to create a safe experience in the outdoor environment. To do so, we follow these general safety guidelines for adults and children: RSVP by letting us know the date you are planning on joining us on a Tiny Hike. It's helpful to include the age of participants so that we can adjust the trail and/or activities. Park Day in Franklin

Cultivating Community Spirit and Green Thumbs My role as a parent is to cultivate, nurture, and raise tiny human beings who are considerate, responsible, and conscious of the world they inhabit. During our park day in Franklin we discovered a community garden. It was great! Much bigger than our own two raised garden beds, this little paradise of flowers, herbs and vegetables outnumbered ours by 53 at least. But more than a collection of plants, the community garden is a testament to what like-minded people can achieve when they come together and put their hearts into a shared objective. Upon entering the garden, my kiddo’s eyes shimmered with joy and curiosity. His fingers itched to grab a gardening tool, in this case a watering can, and instinctively, get to some gardening. Here though, every plant had a story and every patch represented someone's hard work, or lack of.
