Tiny Hike FAQs
Additional Information About Tiny Hike Meet Ups
What is the age range?
- Our current age starts from 2yrs. and up. All school ages are welcome! Both older and younger siblings are welcome . There isn't a specific age requirement. A mixed age group is great because one of the things about the homeschooling approach to education is that learners are not limited to a specific age group.
What is the event cost?
- It is free to join a nature walk. It's free to join the group. We try to take the parking cost into consideration. The October nature walks are specific to the free parking lot at the state park (although they have limited parking spaces).
Do I have to RSVP to join in?
- Yes! Please let us know that you will be coming on a tiny hike with us. There are a few reasons why we ask you to RSVP that include possible last minute location or time changes, account time for a meet-and-greet for new participants, and/or adjust the theme activities based learning level.
How long is the tiny hike?
- Every tiny hike depends on how our tiny hikers feel. Sometimes the nature walk will be up to an hour and other times it's anywhere from 20-30 min of walking and additional time of free play.
What is the themed component like?
- Based on the age of our current tiny hikers the theme is supplemented by a nature books and emphasized during the nature walk. However, since the nature walks are open structure, we'll focus on what is interesting to our young learners and go with that.
Do you follow a curriculum?
- Not exactly. There is a very loose preK curriculum like recognizing colors, animals, counting, gross and fine motor skills, and social skill development. We're focusing on homeschooling/alternative and wild learning principles.
Location, dates, and time.
- Open to location suggestions. We're looking to do Tiny Hikes at Franklin State Park, Ashland State Park, and Upland State Park in the coming months. We're also going to alternate between weekdays and weekends. October time is scheduled for the early morning, but if the afternoon works better for your family and your tiny hiker, let us know and we'll schedule some it the afternoon.
Collaboration.
- If you'd like to collaborate on a Tiny Hike theme, we'd love to hear from you!
