With the change of season the format for signing up process for meet-up  will also change. This change includes: 

  • No longer Drop-In. Registration is required. 
  • No longer doing RSVPs by email or FB DM. Discord server instead.

This change reflects good practice for online safety. Registration will be on our Discord server. Discord is a free service - it's free to create an account and it's a free app.

We've set up a chat server for participating families to brainstorm activities around themes, get to know each other before heading out on the trail, address stranger danger, and for posting meet up times/locations. As part of registration there is a required virtual meet n' greet. Not everyone uses  mainstream social media platforms (FB, IG, Twitter) so we're going off the beaten path. Discord allows us to uses multiple verification. We want our and your participating Tiny Hikers to be safe and for parents/guardians to have some peace of mind when it comes to online safety. 

Things that will remain the same: 

  • It's free
  • It's child led
  • It's flexible to age group/range of interests
  • It's flexible with around learning themes
We want to provide a nature-based experience by offering an opportunity to socialize and develop life skills, like problem solving and building confidence, as well as, an opportunity to develop through creative play, build their vocabulary, and foster discovery.

  General Safety Guidelines  Physical safety of participants is a priority. We want to create a safe experience in the outdoor environment. To do so, we follow these general safety guidelines for adults and children: RSVP by letting us know the date you are planning on joining us on a Tiny Hike. Park Day in Franklin

  Cultivating Community Spirit and Green Thumbs My role as a parent is to cultivate, nurture, and raise tiny human beings who are considerate, responsible, and conscious of the world they inhabit. During our park day in Franklin we discovered a community garden. It was great! Much bigger than our own two raised garden beds, this little paradise of flowers, herbs and vegetables outnumbered ours by 53 at least. But more than a collection of plants, the community garden is a testament to what like-minded people can achieve when they come together and put their hearts into a shared objective. Upon entering the garden, my kiddo’s eyes shimmered with joy and curiosity. His fingers itched to grab a gardening tool, in this case a watering can, and instinctively, get to some gardening. Here though, every plant had a story and every patch represented someone's hard work, or lack of.
